Description

Delicious and healthy turkey meatballs made with lean ground turkey and oats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 93% lean ground turkey
  • ⅓ cup quick oats
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
  • ⅓ cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400℉ (200°C). Prep a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray to prevent the meatballs from sticking.
  2. Finely dice or grate the onion, mince the garlic, and chop the fresh basil.
  3. Combine all the ingredients including turkey, oatmeal, parmesan, basil, garlic, onion, egg, olive oil, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Mix to combine using your hands, a wooden spoon, or a spatula. Make sure all the ingredients are well distributed but be careful not to over-mix as this will result in tough meatballs.
  5. Scoop about 2 Tbsp of the meat mixture at a time and form into balls on the prepared baking sheet, continuing until you have about 20 meatballs.
  6. Use your hands to shape the meatballs, wetting your hands with water to make them less sticky. Brush or spray the tops with olive oil if desired.
  7. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes. The meatballs are done when the internal temperature reaches 165℉ (75°C) as measured with a meat thermometer. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the meatballs and the oven.

Notes

  • These meatballs can be served with marinara sauce over spaghetti or on their own for a healthy meal.
  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey with ground chicken or beef if preferred.
